Cristiano Ronaldo 2012 Biography

Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Madeira Island – Portugal on February 5th 1985. His mother decided that his second name should be Ronaldo because she was a great admirer of the late U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
He started playing soccer at the age of 3 and soon came to the attention of soccer scouts. When he was 11 he was transferred from Madeira Island to mainland Portugal where he played for one of the best Portuguese teams, Sporting Lisbon.
In 2003 Manchester United came to Lisbon to play a friendly game against Sporting. Cristiano, then aged 18, played a fantastic game which so impressed Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester Coach, that a few days later he was transferred to the great English club.
The talented Portuguese player came to Manchester United at a time when the club was looking for a substitute for David Beckham who had been transferred to Real Madrid in Spain a few months before. As every soccer fan knows, David has now moved to Los Angeles Galaxy.
The magical skills of Cristiano Ronaldo were growing year by year, accumulating dozens of very prestigious international honours and awards in his short career. In a short space of time, C. Ronaldo was regarded as one of the top five soccer players in the world and heading very fast to being the best.
In December 2nd 2007. Cristiano Ronaldo at age 22, came in 2nd spot in the “Golden Ball Award” (Ballon d’Or) organized by the magazine France Football. The great winner and top favourite was the Brazilian Kaká, with Leonel Messi of Barcelona, filling the podium
Two weeks later on December 17^th as widely expected, AC Milan and Brazil star Kaká won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award which took place in a glittering ceremony in Zurich, beating Lionel Messi with Cristiano Ronaldo coming a close third.
2008 was a fabulous year for Cristiano, winning everything including his first Champions League trophy for Manchester United, followed by the “Golden Boot Award”, the “Ballon d’Or” with Lionel Messi coming in second. The icing on the cake came at the end of the year by winning the FIFA World Player of the Year Award, followed once again by the talented Messi. These were the most prestigious of the many awards he got for 2008.
